Each nuc will have a locally raised and mated Italian queen from our queen rearing operation. The queen in these over-wintered nucs are typically 6 to 9 months old and emerged and mated after the previous Spring build-up; so, she is still considered a “young” queen. She and her colony have demonstrated the strength and resilience to survive our North Alabama climate.
Our nucs are typically 5 frames all with mostly drawn comb from spring or summer splits from our over-wintered stocks. Nucs are strong with at least one frame of brood from the queen that is present. In addition, there will be at least one full frame of honey, pollen stores, and some space open for the queen to continue laying. The nuc will be ready to place in your full-size hive body so the brood nest can continue to expand.
The nucs will be available for pickup generally in mid-March depending on the weather in the Spring. You will be updated on the pick-up time in February once we assess the nucs.

Note: Our apiaries have been inspected by the local State Inspector and the Alabama Department of Agriculture and we have been issued a Certificate of Apiary Inspection for 2023.
Nucs are popular because they provide an highest chance of making it through the first winter while Packages tend to have a lower chance of success.
The full purchase price is required at time of purchase. If you decide you do not want the nuc you purchased, we will refund 80% of your purchase price.
